Bright Landscapes: Short Stories

Gods grow tired. Spirit have opinions. The creatures of myth and legend, it turns out, have needs, frustrations and longings as recognisable as our own. And, in these ten stories, they are driven by desires and disappointments that are deeply, unmistakably human.

Some of these stories are re-tellings of Asian myths and folktales; others inspired by indigenous beliefs and local legend. All ask what happens when old stories are re-imagined—and what becomes possible when the characters inside them are finally allowed to want something for themselves.
